A Day on the Rhine River

After adjusting to the time change and a long night's sleep, we took the next day to explore the old village of Oberwesel and take a river boat trip on the Rhine.  Each of the castles we saw had long histories of being built, destroyed, rebuilt, attacked and destroyed again, rebuilt again or taken apart  for buildings in town. But they all have the same basis for existence - taxing the traveling merchants who cross their property or use the part of the river that they control. So lots of walking and climbing these days - trying to work off the high carb/ high protien / high calorie breakfasts!
our hotel room in the castle was at the top of the round tower
